February Check-In

Updated: Dec 18, 2021

And we're back! It's February 18th and we've just past a pretty happy holiday for some, and for others, well let's just say it reminds us single people out here that spending time with friends and family is about 10x better. Apart from that, February has been filled with hearing back from university's, colleges, summer programs etc, and it's been a TIME AND A HALF! The beginning of this month (and we're only two weeks in) has been a pretty wild time. I've been anxiously waiting for spring break, 'cause let's be real, we could all use a break right now. With this blog post, I just want to emphasize some of the things people might be going through right now. Whether it's Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), or just general things that are really challenging for people. February can be a really challenging for a lot of people. One of the things that I really want to talk about in today's post is just some of the advice that I'd give to you if you're going through a rough time.

Now, just as a preface to all of the advice about to come is that I am not a professional, I'm a 17 year old girl, who talks to a lot of friends all day and is happy to give people and friends her advice when they ask for it. So, this advice is just little things that I've found myself telling others throughout this kinda glum month.

1. You are going to be okay. Everyone has their ruts but I promise you it is going to be okay. Winter in Ottawa is pretty glum, and pretty grey, however, it's going to eventually work out. Despite it being grey, and cloudy basically 24/7, make sure you emphasize the little things in life that make you happy. Do something for yourself at least once a day to allow yourself to smile!

2. It's okay to have rough days and tell people about it. One of the biggest things that I've seen, has been people that are very visually not having a good day but tell you continuously "I'm fine." Let's be real here, you're going through a tough time. Honestly, I get it. But, that being said one of the biggest things that I've totally been guilty of hiding that feeling. However, I've learned that it's more to your benefit that you say something. It's okay to let people in a little bit, and say, you know I'm having a bit of a rough day.

3. Take risks. Taking risks is something that I've learned from the past couple of years that I've learned have been both good and bad. Although, there are some risks that I regret taking, there are definitely more risks that I've taken that in the long run have made me so much happier. Whether it's little things, such as, taking breaks from social media, to taking time for myself and not going out with people. Even something bigger like reaching out to someone who you normally wouldn't. Those risks are things that might be out of your comfort zone but are totally worth it in the long run. If you find that they turn out not to be for your benefit, then learn something for them.

Well, those are the three little things that I've noticed myself telling people a lot recently. I hope it helped, or at least, I hope you were able to find it at least a shred bit entertaining. Now for a new little piece I've been meaning to add for a little while now, and it's a part of the blog where I get to ask you questions! So, either, comment below what you think, or send me a message on Instagram with your answers!

QUESTION ONE: If you could travel to one place in the world where would it be?

QUESTION TWO: What kind of content do you want to see on this blog?

QUESTION THREE: DSLR camera or Polaroid camera? Which do you prefer?

Let me know what you think! And I'll catch you next time :)
