Summer Favourite's

Updated: Dec 18, 2021

Hey y'all!

So with July coming to an end, I figured I would tell you a little bit about my summer favourite's so far. I'm pretty bummed that summer is slowly coming to an end but it's definitely been an interesting summer to say the least. But, here are some of my favourite's in all sorts of categories :)

MUSIC

So, for those of you who know me, you would know that I am probably one of the BIGGEST Taylor Swift fans out there. When she announced her 8th studio album I jumped up and down and set about 20 alarms in preparation for the album's release. Once it came out, I quickly developed a love for the entire thing. A 16 track long album of songs running no shorter than 3.5 minutes. It is her most sonically cohesive album and the lyrics tell stories from different perspectives with detail of her own life intertwined into the album. From "the 1" to "hoax" the album is truly a work of art. You HAVE to go listen to it. I've ranked my the album from my favourite song to the song that's going to take the most time to grow on me.

  1. 1. betty

  2. 2. cardigan

  3. 3. the last great american dynasty

  4. 4. exile (ft. Bon Iver)

  5. 5. august

  6. 6. seven

  7. 7. the 1

  8. 8. illicit affairs

  9. 9. invisible string

  10. 10. my tears ricochet

  11. 11. mad woman

  12. 12. this is me trying

  13. 13. mirrorball

  14. 14. epiphany

  15. 15. peace

  16. 16. hoax

Now, apart from Taylor Swift's album, I also have a summer 2020 playlist up on my Spotify account that has multiple different artists and a range of genre's.

If you click on the photo it'll bring you to the playlist. But, if you're looking for some amazing songs off the playlist, here are my top 10 songs.

PODCASTS

Podcasts are something that I've been trying to spend more time listening to. I listen to most of my podcasts on Spotify but sometimes I'll try and see if the person has it available on Youtube so that I can watch it. I find that watching them just gives a different perspective to them. Some of my favourite podcasts have been:

These podcasts are full of interviews, advice and fun conversations for people to listen to. They are definitely more lifestyle podcasts than podcasts that target topics like the news, or politics. They're super for when you need something playing in the background while you cook, go for a walk, or run errands. Here are the links to them if you wanna check them out:

APPS

Okay so we alllll understand that today we have about 500 billion different apps that are SUPER accessible. But, I thought maybe it might be worth the while to mention some of my favourite productivity, social media and just useful apps that might be helpful for your every day use, or if you're into photography and photo editing like me then some of these might just change your life. Just a note; all these apps are free versions of the apps. I believe for most of these apps there are definitely versions that you can pay for, but as a broke college student, I have a MUCH BIGGER appreciation for the fee versions.

Lifestyle App

Sooooo, this is the Stoic app. This is an app that I discovered really recently and let me tell you it is possibly the best app I've found in a REALLY long time. Stoic is an app that allows you to reflect three times a day and just take a moment for yourself. It gives you different "exercises" that take no more than three minutes to complete. This app has really helped me slow down during the day and just take a couple minutes to yourself.

Social Media Apps

Okay so these three are all pretty straight forward and I'm sure the majority of you know what all of these apps are. But I can't be the only one who has spent HOURS during quarantine scrolling mindlessly through your Instagram or Twitter feed, or just watching really dumb TikTok's. Yeah, it's a waste of time, but these apps are good for entertainment and have DEFINITELY kept me busy during quarantine.

Photo Editing Apps

These are some of my FAVOURITE photo editing apps. Let's break it down a little.

  • Canva: This app is one that I don't use all the time but I wanna start using it more because the templates for stories, editing blogs and even Instagram templates are amazing.

  • Prequel: This app is great to edit your posts to have that old film look. You're able to adjust lighting, shadows and all the basic things you need for your photos.

  • Lightroom: So this one is pretty straight forward, it's the best editing app. The app is free, but you can also pay a membership to be able to use it on a desktop or laptop. The phone app is great and can edit your photos really well.

  • Planoly: This app is for the people who wanna plan out your instagram feed, or your stories. It's a free app with the option to purchase a membership to have more flexibility. The app is really helpful to help get the feed that you want.

  • StoryArt: This app is amazing for story templates. There are SOOOOO many different free options. This definitely takes your story game up!!!

  • VSCO: I love using this app to get inspiration for photos, but their editing tools are AMAZING. It's a super easy to use app, with all the basic adjustments you need for your photos.

YOUTUBE/ INFLUENCERS

Youtube has definitely been something that has kept me busy during covid. There are sooo many different things you can learn, and be entertained by on the platform. I've been watching a lot of lifestyle videos and also just some of the OG classic Youtuber's. All of these people are also influencers, their feeds make me SOOOO jealous and they're all just absolute bosses at their jobs. Here are some of the people I've been following recently.

KENZIE ELIZABETH

This girl is an ABSOLUTE boss at her job. Her vlogs are full of fun and her dogs are the cutest things ever. Her feed is not all the same, and has a range of different content that she puts out. Her podcast is so much fun and always an incredible listen.

ADELAINE MORIN

Instagram: @adelainemorin

Youtube: Adeline Morin

Adelaine is Canadian!!! haha, not that that changes anything, BUT her content is so much fun, so raw and real and her Instagram feed is so fun and very aesthetically pleasing. I love her Youtube channel, it's so refreshing to see a raw Youtube channel where she opens up and we get to know her for her, and not her brand. I also LOVE her clothing brand and what it stands for (Girls Supporting Girls), I think it's a really important message to know.

ERIN ELIZABETH

Youtube: Erin Elizabeth

I've actually had the pleasure of working with Erin on multiple occasions. She is the sweetest person ever and I love her content. A very lifestyle focussed feed and Youtube channel, it's super refreshing. Her style is incredible, her dog is absolutely adorable and she recently launched a podcast that I'm falling in love with! Make sure you check it out!

LAUREN RIIHIMAKI (laurdiy)

Instagram: @laurdiy

Youtube: Laurdiy

Another Canadian Youtuber, Lauren is SUPER crafty and known for her DIY projects in the Youtube community. Her dog is the freaking cutest! And her Instagram feed is soooo nice. Her videos are always so entertaining to watch and a big inspiration if you want a new home decor piece, or fun craft project.

TAYLOR KING

Youtube: Taylor King

OMG okay TK is someone I've recently started following and let me tell you, her stuff is AMAZING. She's forkin' hilarious, and known for her red lips, bold coloured Instagram feed and polls on her story. I've had the pleasure of having a couple brief conversations with her and she's so sweet. I'm definitely looking forward to getting to know her more :) (TK if you're reading this, come to Toronto soon and let's shoot!!) Check out her podcast (it's so funny) and her Instagram will DEFINITELY give you new perspective on bold colours!

ALISHA MARIE

Instagram: @alisha

Youtube: Alisha Marie

I've been watching Alisha Marie for years now and continue to fall in love with her content! Her feed has evolved into less edited photos with a super fun aesthetic! I love her vlogs, and she NEVER goes half way with her content. Her content is always done with 110% effort and it shows! Her merch is dope af and definitely worth checking out :)

MOVIE/ TV SHOWS

With covid happening, I've had a lot more time to watch TV and movies. Here are some of the shows and movies that I've watched during quarantine. Click the photo to take you to the trailer for the first season or first movie of each movie/tv show mentioned.

Game Of Thrones

8 Seasons

10/10

So I finally got around to watching GOT and holy shit was it worth the wait. I loved every minute of it. It was like taking Lord of The Rings (one of my favourite movies) stretching them out with a story line that was 5x better and over the course of 8 seasons. I think I watched the whole series in about a week (embarrassing, I know). But if you haven't seen it yet, you HAVE to watch it.

Gilmore Girls

7 Seasons

10/10

I have ALWAYS loved this show. I think I've watched the whole series at least four times. It's written at such a fast pace, the humour is stellar. Having watched it at different points in my life, every time I watch it, I understand different culture references. It's absolutely hilarious, and something that is 100% worth binging if you haven't already.

Cursed

1 Season

8/10

When this show came on Netflix I was super excited to watch it because I watned to see Katherine Langford in something that wasn't 13 Reasons. The show was a great show to binge over the course of a couple days (only 1 season is out), but was a good story line and ends with a HUGE cliff hanger. Definitely worth watching.

After

9/10

I've watched this movie now about 4 or 5 times and every time I enjoy it more. I'm so excited for the second movie to come out in a couple months! The story is amazing, I really wanna read the book because I hear it's just as good as the film. Totally worth watching if you want to watch a good romance movie.

The Kissing Booth|The Kissing Booth 2

8/10 and 7/10

The Kissing Booth is a movie that I watched when it first came out and then more recently right before the second movie came out. I LOVED the first movie, I thought it was cute and well done. The second movie was not y favourite. I think it was too close to the first movie (in terms of the story line) and I think they portrayed certain characters to be really un-likeable. But, nonetheless, the movie is still worth the watch and really cute.

A Nice Girl Like You

10/10

This movie was HILARIOUS. Seeing Lucy Hale not in PLL was something that I loved. I think that she played the character really well. It's NOT a movie to watch with the fam, but still definitely worth the watch. It's so cute, and funny and definitely brings a new story to tell about a couple. This is the kinda movie you wanna watch when you're looking for a late night comedy movie.

Well, if you made it this far, I'm HIGHLY impressed. I really hope you enjoyed my summer favourite's and hopefully you found something good to listen to, good to watch, or just enjoyed the read. Stay tuned for more because I'm turning 19 things and I'm coming out with a new post for you on that day!!

Stay safe :)
